Dark, noisy, angsty and raw.
This band had a heavy Jesus Lizard influence, but mixed with a little depressing onstage self abuse and low- fi effects.
Loosely constructed odes to isolation and insecurity interminced with experimental guitar sonics, pierced with brutal (yet beautiful) harsh noise shards and undercurrents of dark counterpointing drum/bass rhythms.
I loved this group. No releases though dammit! Sadly faded to nothingness in the early nineties.
Played extensively around Auckland at the Gluepot, Punch and Judys (An early incarnation of the very wonderful Pod Bar - R.I.P) and the Powerstation.
Featured Mathew Hyland, the tortured enigmatic artist. Vocalist, lyricist, guitarist and writer for Rip It Up and various self produced publications), Vanessa on vocals/keyboards and John Taylor on drums.
Previous to J.A, Mathew was a founding member of Albino Slug a band later to become the notorious SPUD. He now resides in London, a core member of the improv guitar noise outfit, Mean Streaks, along with David Mitchell and regularly collaborates with other experimental artists on various random live and recorded projects.
